The typical technology used for FTTH is passive optical network (PON), a point-to-multipoint fiber access technology that consists of an optical line terminal (OLT) on the bureau side, an optical network terminal (ONU) on the user side, and an optical distribution network (ODN) connecting the OLT and ONT. “Passive” means that the ODN does not contain any active electronics or electronic power.
The ODN is deployed in a complex and diverse external environment and is a key factor in the deployment and maintenance of the entire fiber-to-the-home solution.
